The Spirit of Missouri Part 2 (1940-1970)
From the late 19th Century into the early years of the 20th Century, Missouri witnessed the rise of greatness, opportunity, change, and a determination to succeed, from the east side of St. Louis to Kansas City and across the state.
Think about it: the legal forward pass in football was initiated in Missouri. The Show Me State witnessed the first female owner in Major League Baseball history, the Farm System, the Negro National League, and Hollywood even drew attention to St. Louis.
These lasting impacts continue to shape professional sports today.
And by 1940, Whitey Herzog, Hank Stram, Len Dawson, and Stan Musial had been born.
